Swoop Dining Chairs Commission

Swoop Dining Chairs

Making Swoop dining chairs is always a satisfying and rewarding process especially when they are a thoughtfully-chosen commission. The unique design of Swoop Dining Chairs are suited to all styles of home interior from contemporary to country-style dining areas within the home and they also make great office chairs too. The stylish ‘swoop’ back design provides great back support which then extends into shortened chair arms, and the depth of seat means you can sit in comfort for hours.

So a little about the chairs… The ‘swoop’ chair crest is steam bent and held in shape using a jig which I first developed years ago to provide the correct curvature for this chair style. The crest is then left in the jig to dry to ensure the shape is fixed in place. This step of the chair making process is the one with the highest risk of failure. The curve is quite tight and sometimes, even though the wood has been steamed to soften it and loosen the fibres within, the outer curve will splinter or crack. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen very often but when it does I try to re-use the wood to make smaller items like my ‘waste knot’ buttons.

This photograph of the chairs in situ was kindly sent to me following their delivery. In fact, it was sent along with wonderful comments and gratitude before I had even arrived home! Don't they look fabulous in their new home?

This set of dining chairs was completed and delivered in early January so I’m a little late in writing a blog post about them but I’m a maker and wood-botherer first and foremost so sometimes it takes a little while for me to update the website. If you follow my social media updates they are usually more timely.

If you are interested in commissioning one or more of the Swoop Dining Chairs then please do get in touch.
